Shoe Designer
In a moment of madness or divine intervention Rupert
Sanderson resigned from a promising career in advertising
to learn how to make shoes at the Cordwainers College
in East London. He then worked for the designers
Sergio Rossi and Bruno Magli in Italy before launching
his own line. His design philosophy is simply ‘less
is more’. He concentrates on perfecting
the line, volume and material to flatter and lengthen
the leg, making women feel sexier. His inspiration
comes from the materials themselves; from the sensual
curve and silhouettes of the lasts and heels, to
the quality and finish of the best leather and fabrics.
This design ethic of understated and simplistic glamour
attracts beauties such as Cate Blanchett and Kirsten
Dunst.
To compliment his obsessive passion with the Italian
craft of shoe making, every pair of Rupert Sanderson
shoes is named after a Daffodil. How very
English…

Experimental luxury is the philosophy of three generations
of Spanish shoemakers. They are shoemakers, in the
most traditional sense of the term...and the most
avant-garde sense of the term. At the helm now is
the third generation of a family devoted to footwear.
The saga, however, dates back to grandpa Garcia,
the first Pedro, who founded the business in 1925,
opening a workshop in Alicante. The second Pedro
Garcia took over the reins of the business and expanded
becoming specialised in women’s footwear and
by 1968 the brand was being exported to the world’s
premiere markets, appearing in Vogue and Harper’s
Bazaar and even becoming a benchmark in the luxury
segment of the demanding American market. Today,
the third Pedro and his sister, Mila, embody the
latest generation. Pedro studied at Ars Sutoria in
Milan and the Fashion Institute of Technology in
New York.
Through it all, the brand’s design philosophy
has been a catalyst to design experimental luxury.
A pair of Pedro Garcias constitutes a powerful melange
explosif that takes contrasting materials and makes
them coalesce, associating the unassociable, creating
hybrid models from opposing concepts, always looking
one step beyond. Just as long as the end product
is irrefutably impeccable and extreme high-end.
That distinguishing, unmistakable JNSQ of Pedro Garcia
designs is evident in certain models and in the use
of particular finishes and materials. They are PG
classics. Models such as the flip-flops with anatomic
soles, Amanda and Anabel, which are celebrating their
tenth anniversary; finishes such as the lauded frayed
satin, and of course... the Swarovski creations,
infinitely striking and brilliant!

Freya Rose was born in England and studied footwear
at the London College of Fashion, graduating in 2003
with a 1st Class honours degree. In 2007 she set
up her own company designing made-to-order couture
shoes. The daughter of Barbara Tipple, the internationally
acclaimed bespoke jewellery designer, she was inspired
to use precious stones and materials in her own work.
The resulting collaboration with the goldsmiths in
the Barbara Tipple workshops has produced highly
desirable shoes. Designs have included diamonds with
18ct gold in unusual settings, a carved silver heel,
rutilated quartz and tourmaline.
The Freya Rose range is elegant and vivacious, making
use of rich colour s and materials from the finest
Italian tanneries. The shoes themselves are also
accessorised with intricate handmade leather flowers,
abalone shell buttons and real pearls. Her natural
talent, an eye for detail and ground-breaking use
of precious material won her first prize at the ‘Tahitian
Pearl Awards 2007’.
The thoughtful design and detailing of these beautiful
shoes truly make a luxurious and unique collection,
and stand as pieces of art on their own.

Bettye Muller is what you might call a footwear
connoisseur with a collection of vintage designer
shoes that once exceeded 500 pairs. Today, the New
Yorker’s 60-piece collection is informed by
her love of luxurious fabrics as well as experiences
living abroad in England and Italy and travels to
the Far East, and Central and South America. Bettye
Muller shoes are vivid, pretty and as colourful as
the designer's own eclectic tastes. Inspired by vintage
fabrics and intense colours such as Bordeaux, granny
apples and tangerines, her collections create a sense
of fantasy for women.
Since they're unique, her shoes aren't for just
anyone. The artist says that women who wear her pieces
must have a great sense of self and a distinct style. "They're
a statement, so the women who wear them must be very
confident," she says.
Mirroring the designer's individuality, the beauty
of her Italian-made pieces lies in the details: faux
fur-lined interiors, vintage brocades and vibrant
beaded accents are just a few special touches that
distinguish her footwear. "They're original,
and I always want to keep them that way," Bettye
explains.
But no matter where Bettye's design inspiration
takes her, some things will remain consistent about
her shoes: they will be sophisticated and feminine,
stylish and fun... and always unexpected!
